For this week, I wanted to feature an exfoliating bamboo wash cloth that I’ve been using and recommending to friends, family and clients for years that is seriously a game changer for your skin. And I don’t use that term lightly. It is THAT good. This was recommended to me by a skincare CEO who’s company invented microdermabrasion and he said this is better than anything he has ever found, including their own technology.
And please know that not all bamboo wash cloths aren’t created equally – I’ve tested dozens over the years – and this is hands-down the best one, so don’t try anything else – you’ll regret it.
This week, since I’m in New York, I wanted to feature a few summer items from a friend and one of my favorite New York-based designers. On top of that, I’ve been meaning to hang out with Barron from EffortlessGent.com, so what better way to kill a few birds with one stone?
The 100% high quality linen coupled with the navy and white color palette of the shirt will keep you cool all Summer long for years to come.
The champagne suede sneakers are a great way to add a stylish, yet neutral color to your summer wardrobe. Wear with the floral shirt and some white or light blue denim, navy or charcoal chinos or shorts.
You get what you pay for. High quality materials and construction coupled with well thought out, sharp designs are hard to come by. Trust me.
Did I mention these are neutral items that are easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe?!
So this week I wanted to feature something that most people may not know about or think to have in their clothing arsenal, but it’s something that makes my job a million times easier – a handheld steamer. It is seriously the best for how to remove wrinkles from your clothes in 60 seconds. Every one of my friends, family and clients I gift this to has said that this thing is a game changer. So do yourself a favor and get one so you can dewrinkle all your clothes quickly!
I’ve owned this steamer for a few years now and it’s the best on the market and will steam all the wrinkles out of your clothes within 60 seconds. It’s lightweight, durable, will work on every fabric except leather and suede, and is a way better alternative to an iron because it won’t burn your clothes, doesn’t require an ironing board and will get the wrinkles out of your clothes faster than it takes to set up your iron. And I’m not exaggerating.
The only time I ever use an iron is if I’m starching shirts or if I need to put a crease in something. And that happens about once every few years.
I love this steamer because it comes with a 3 year warranty and the one time I had an issue, I emailed the company and got amazing support right away. Also, I love that you can buy replacement parts from them so that you don’t have to replace the entire steamer if something goes bad, unlike most brands out there.
Whenever I travel, for work or pleasure, I always bring mine with me, and on top of that, they make great gifts! They’re definitely one of those things where someone gets it and doesn’t understand how amazing it is until they use it.
So join me in the 21st century and throw out your iron and ironing boards!
I’m quite excited for my pick of the week because I’ve been constantly checking for the last few weeks to see if they’re available. Annnnnnnnd they are!! I’m sure you’ve already read my Essential Polo Shirt article so you know what to look for in a polo – so I present to you, my favorite polo shirt.
The cotton fabric feels like a really soft t-shirt.
The collar has just the right amount of structure.
The price is very affordable. They’re currently on sale for $10.
Do yourself a favor and pick these up right now because they go in and out of stock constantly, and sometimes for weeks on end. The second I see them come up, I immediately order them because I’ve been burned in the past by waiting.
During this time of year, Dorian lives in these polos. He wears them all the time, but especially during the Spring and Summer months. I do want to point out, though, that the darker colored polos are not the most durable. I baby these by washing them in cold water with detergent, specifically for dark colors, and I let them air dry, but even still, the color for the darker polos will fade so you’ll need to replace them yearly if not sooner.
With all that said, these are still some of the best fitting and best looking polos ever.
Best Ways to Wear
I love polo shirts because they can easily be dressed up or down. If you’re running errands or want a super casual, yet put together look, then pair your polo with some dark wash jeans and white low top sneakers. Check out my Polo Shirt article for lots of other ways to wear a polo shirt, as well.
I was prepping for a fitting, and I came across these Johnston & Murphy burgundy cap toes that I thought you should know about. I’m not normally a fan of burgundy shoes because I often find the color to be difficult to wear and usually ends up being too much of a statement piece. But, these are different because the darker color is closer to a burgundy brown instead of the more reddish-oxblood color you often see with other “burgundy shoes” and that makes them much easier to wear. So, I had to make them my pick of the week!
The decorative broguing along with the brown soles adds a casual look to them making them easy to wear with your summer suits, like a green or navy cotton suit, or with some chinos or dark wash jeans. Blues, greens, and khaki go great with burgundy. If you’re ever unsure how to wear these, just know that whenever you wear brown dress shoes with a more casual outfit, you can easily wear these instead.
I also want to address the contrasting stitching. On more formal shoes it can be very distracting and pull the attention away from your outfit and really focus it on the shoes. But on a casual dress shoe, such as these, it works because you’re never going to be wearing them with a really formal outfit. So if you’re thinking about doing that, then please don’t.
Like I’ve said before, accessories are a great way to add some fun touches to your outfit and these shoes do exactly that.
I was doing a pull for a client when I randomly stumbled on this indigo blue chambray shirt and I had to share it with you. It’s not often that a simple shirt like this blows me away, but this one was something special. It was the perfect shade of indigo blue, the buttons where a similar color to the shirt, so they blended in nicely. And the fit was really darn good. If you don’t already have one (or a few) of these in your closet, get one – or many!
This shirt will definitely not be available for too long so be sure to order yours if you’ve been wanting a chambray shirt for awhile now because it’s so tough to find one this good.
Best Ways to Wear
Chambray shirts look great year round. You can wear it dressed up with a sportcoat, dress it down with a bomber jacket, or wear it on its own with the sleeves rolled up and paired with some chinos or grey or black jeans.
Happy Spring! This week I wanted to show you some of my favorite Spring ties and pocket squares you can easily (and cheaply!) pick up to add some new life and personality into your current wardrobe. Accessories are a great way to add an element of fun and can help make your year round navy and charcoal suits and sportcoats more seasonally appropriate.
I love playing with color for Spring so I chose this pink polka dot tie which would look fantastic paired with your navy or charcoal suit.
This lavender tie and floral pocket square combination instantly injects some fun into your year round suits. Pair with a light blue dress shirt (which you should already have!) and now you have a sharp, Spring outfit.
I’ve been thinking a lot about men’s jewelry lately and what items, outside of a watch, would look great on every man regardless of his age. My pick of the week is this sterling silver cuff bracelet by Maison Margiela. Also, Le Gramme makes a similar one that I like a lot, too.
The reason why I chose this item is because the goal with your accessories is to have timeless, well constructed, minimally designed pieces. This silver cuff is an excellent way to add a stylish touch to your outfit. You should always stay away from anything that’s too flashy or obnoxious because that’ll end up making you look tacky.
It’s elegant and is made of sterling silver, and not brass, which will eventually tarnish (read: waste of money). Also, the simplicity of the item makes it easy to wear with any outfit, from something as casual as a t-shirt and jeans all the way up to a suit.
I also love the width of the cuff – It’s not too wide or too thin. It’s perfect for every man regardless of your height or build which is why it’s my pick of the week!
My Favorite Silver Cuffs
I highly recommend these two BIFL (Buy It For Life) cuffs. They’re made from pure sterling silver, barely weigh anything so you’ll pretty much feel nothing on your wrists, and the minimal design ensures your cuff won’t snag on your sweaters, jackets or shirt cuffs.
For two budget friendly options, you can go with Miansai, which is going to feel a lot heavier, or Topman, which is made out of brass so will tarnish pretty quickly so you won’t be able to wear it for years and years down the road unless you’re pretty gentle with it.
