Whether it’s your first tattoo or tenth, getting a tattoo should be a great experience, both for you and for your tattoo artist. Make sure you’re not doing any of these, you definitely don’t want to be “that guy”!
1. Arrive under the influence
A huge no-no, come back when you’re sober.
2. Micromanage the artist
Trust is huge and constant micromanaging is not only distracting but also disrespectful.
3. Be disrespectful
Speaking of that, being polite and respectful to the artist and shop employees is critical for a good experience. You wouldn’t like it if someone came to your place of work and was rude right? Don’t forget to show gratitude to your artist via a tip for their hard work as well.
4. Ask to copy another artist’s work
Inspiration is fine but artists are here for their own work, not someone else’s.
5. Throw up on them
Yikes. Please don’t.
6. Be rushed
It’s a process and takes time so if you don’t have the time and patience, GTFO!
7. Bring a ton of people
One or two people for support is just fine, but a crowd of annoying friends? Definitely not.
8. Haggle the price
Back to respect, the prices are what they are so don’t be that haggler.
9. Have poor hygiene
Maybe it’s obvious, but just like everyone else, your artist doesn’t want to smell your BO.
10. Come unprepared
Getting a tattoo is a big decision and you should arrive with a plan and comfortable with what you’re getting and the artist you are working with, make sure you do your homework.
