How Many Rings Should Men Wear?

Over-accessorizing is a common problem a lot of guys fall prey to.  While we definitely believe the right accessories can really elevate your look, it’s important to know how to do it right.  In this episode of 2 Minute Tuesday we’re answering a viewer question about rings.  Should a man wear them?  If so, how many are too many?

1 Ring Per Hand Max

Stick to this rule as the be-all, end-all of ring rules.  Any more than that and you’re going to look like you are trying too hard.

Skip The Thumb Ring

Thumb rings are a definite no-go, they just come off as tacky and cheesy.  Keep your rings to your forefinger, middle finger, and maybe your pinky.

 

Mixing Metals Is Ok

We’re not diehards about not mixing metal types with rings and watches, but it does look best if your rings are somewhat consistent with your watch or other accessories.

How To Deal With Rejection

Rejection is a part of life, both personally and professionally. We all face it and it’s unavoidable. But, it’s also a great learning opportunity.  Whether it’s about your self-confidence or how you interact with people, what’s important is how you learn to get over it and what you take away from it.  Believe it or not, it takes some practice but learning how to deal with rejection comes down to 5 simple factors.

Accept It

Know that it’s a part of your romantic life and you will have to deal with it. The sooner you accept it and know that you will grow stronger from it the less power fear will have over you.

Learn From It

Make sure you take away something from the rejection. Whether it’s learning from a mistake you made or that a particular someone wasn’t right for you, rejection can be a powerful learning experience.

Give It Time

Getting over rejection takes time, so be patient. Focus on yourself – your health, fitness, mental strength and you’ll emerge stronger and better.  Don’t beat yourself up after a short period of time, time heals all, as the old saying goes.

It’s Not The End Of The World

Yes, it’s a terrible cliche but it’s absolutely true.  Lean on your support group of friends and family and try to take a step back and look at the big picture.  Every person you probably admire has been rejected and moved on to do great things and you can too!

Get Rejected More Often

Getting rejected more often is actually a good tool. It actually makes it easier to deal with and helps you understand and move on more quickly.  Also, getting rejected means you’re taking risks and living life to the fullest.

As an overall rule, keep things simple and understated.  You don’t want to stand out in a negative/showy way.

Formal – Banking, Law, Medicine

The most conservative look, you definitely want to stick to a charcoal or navy solid suit, white shirt, and simple navy, grey, or brown tie. Understated is the move here.

Potentially the most confusing type of interview to dress for, it can be tough to figure out how casual to go. You want to dress up but not too much, you don’t want to seem stuffy. It’s better to be slightly overdressed than totally underdressed. Try a bomber or a blazer with denim or chinos. You can wear a tie, but it’s not necessary.

How To Dress To Impress A Woman

Many of you might be saying “I should dress for myself, not for women!” and while that’s true, putting thought and effort into how you dress and how you’ll be perceived by women (or anyone really!) is not only important, but it’s a fact of life.

How To Dress To Impress A Woman

Keep It Simple – Don’t overdress for the occasion and try too hard (ie: wearing a suit when it’s the wrong occasion / too many logos/hyped trends). Simple looks from an Essential Wardrobe like dark denim and a blazer or bomber jacket or chinos and an oxford are great places to start.

Put In Effort – Even though you want to keep it simple, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put in thought and care to your look.

Presentation – Make sure your clothes aren’t wrinkled or dirty. It may seem obvious but taking a few extra minutes to properly iron/steam your outfit goes a LONG way.

Dress For Confidence- Yes, I know this isn’t technically something you wear but in many ways, it’s just as important. Being confident and comfortable in your own skin is super attractive and will enhance your overall appeal and how you’re perceived. Feeling good about what you’re wearing goes a long way to helping you feel confident so it’s all intertwined.

How To Dress For The Gym With Steve Cook

There’s definitely a right way and a wrong way to dress for the gym.  Sure, you’re there to get your sweat on but that doesn’t mean you should just wear a ratty old t-shirt and some sweats. Plus, you want to find functional items and fabrics that will wick moisture and provide performance benefits. For this video Ashley was joined by our friend and fitness guru, Steve Cook, to discuss how you should dress for the gym.

Performance Fabrics

Look for technical fabrics with performance benefits. There are many better options than an old cotton t-shirt and those heavy sweats can catch on things and restrict movement.

Watch Your Fit

Yes, there is such thing as too tight and nobody wants to see everything, so find a balance with your fit. Sleeveless is ok, but don’t be the guy in the tiny tank top showing excessive nipple. If you are going to be wearing base layers or tights, we recommend laying shorts and shirts over them.

Stick With Simple Colors

Keep it basic, stick to foundational colors like black, navy, grey, white. A pop of color or pattern is definitely welcome, so don’t be afraid to have some fun with your gym style.  You also don’t need to feel the need to match everything from head to toe, have some variance in what you’re wearing.

Logos

As we’ve discussed before, keep your logos minimal and try not to mix different brand logos, especially if they’re large and noticeable.

Have Gym Wardrobe

It can be tempting to just wear your old t-shirts and shorts to the gym. But just because you’re working out and getting sweaty doesn’t mean you shouldn’t cultivate a well-put-together look. That being said, no need to overthink it. Keep it simple, functional, and easy-to-wear.

5 Worst Places For A Tattoo – with Tattoo Artist Romeo Lacoste

The right tattoo can be an amazing way to express yourself, and as good as they can be, the wrong tattoo in a terrible place can be a huge mistake. Ashley sat down with our friend, and amazing tattoo artist, Romeo Lacoste to talk about the 5 worst places to get a tattoo.

Lower back

All jokes aside, a single lower back tattoo is never a good spot for a man to get a tattoo.  Don’t be that guy with a tramp stamp.

Bicep

Sure, there are great ways to get your bicep tattooed, but as far as having a high probability for cheese factor, the bicep ranks very highly.

Elbow, Ribs, Spine

Pain varies from person to person but these three places are definitely on the most painful places on your body to get tattooed, so make sure you know what you are getting in to.

Foot/Ankle

Again, there can be some good options here but ultimately I just feel like this is a bit too feminine a place or a man to have a tattoo.

Hands/Face

Many people do like these areas, but you have to be realistic about these locations given your professional life and the commitment they require.  They are quite hard to cover up properly so make sure you know what you’re in for.

How To Be More Confident

Some people are born with it, some people aren’t, but confidence is definitely something that anyone can have.  It just takes some work and a positive attitude. Confidence can help you in all facets of life, from dating to professional settings, so that’s why we’re sharing a few tips on how to be more confident.

Identify self-limiting thoughts/actions

Whether you work through it on your own or with a professional, getting clarity on where you lack confidence is an important step in changing it. Whether it’s facing your fears or understanding where negative thoughts come from you’ve got to know where you stand to improve.

Know The Truth: You Are Great

We all have self-doubt, it’s part of life, but confidence starts from the inside out, and working on loving yourself and recognizing your own great qualities is a key point in becoming more confident.

Talk To Yourself

This might seem a bit weird at first but it really works. It can take many forms from mantras you say to yourself at the beginning of the day to just giving yourself a pep talk before a big date or job interview, putting yourself in the right frame of mind can really help you feel more confident.  

Practice

Confidence takes practice.  From consistently working your own processes to just interacting with people on a regular basis, practice makes perfect. The more you work on it, the better you’ll get.

Be Positive

Confidence also starts with a positive outlook. By cultivating a positive outlook on life, social interactions, work, etc. you’ll be able to focus on being genuinely happy with yourself and others

One final point, know the difference between confidence and arrogance. There’s a fine line between being confident and cocky.  Confident people are engaging and fun to be around, arrogant people come off as disingenuous and rude. Yes, it’s important to know your worth but you never want to think you’re better than anyone, projecting the right type of confidence will bring people to you whereas arrogance can just turn people off.
