Don’t Iron Your Shirts!

Proper clothing care and storage is something we talk about a bunch, and for good reason.  Taking those few extra steps to properly care for and prepare your clothes are going to add an extra layer of both style and longevity to your wardrobe. In this week’s 2 Minute Tuesday we’re answering a great question about how to iron a shirt.  Tune in, the answer may not be what you think!

Why?

We firmly believe that men should be steaming not ironing their shirts.  Why? A few reasons:

  1. It’s quicker and easier – You’ve got to set up the board, get all those weird angles and spots, it’s a lot.  Whereas a steamer is much faster and way easier, a few runs from top to bottom on the front and sleeves and you’re done.
  2. It’s better for your shirts – Ironing is tough on shirts and its easy to look away for a minute or use the wrong setting and damage or burn delicate materials. Trust us, an iron burn isn’t a good look! The steam is much more delicate on non-cotton or blended fabrics.
  3. It’s more effective – The steam also does a lot better job of releasing tough wrinkles and creases than a standard iron or even a steam iron.

POTW: How To Remove Wrinkles From Clothes in 60 Seconds

So this week I wanted to feature something that most people may not know about or think to have in their clothing arsenal, but it’s something that makes my job a million times easier – a handheld steamer. It is seriously the best for how to remove wrinkles from your clothes in 60 seconds. Every one of my friends, family and clients I gift this to has said that this thing is a game changer. So do yourself a favor and get one so you can dewrinkle all your clothes quickly!

$62 – Jiffy ESTEAM Personal Hand Held Steamer

I’ve owned this steamer for a few years now and it’s the best on the market and will steam all the wrinkles out of your clothes within 60 seconds. It’s lightweight, durable, will work on every fabric except leather and suede, and is a way better alternative to an iron because it won’t burn your clothes, doesn’t require an ironing board and will get the wrinkles out of your clothes faster than it takes to set up your iron. And I’m not exaggerating.

The only time I ever use an iron is if I’m starching shirts or if I need to put a crease in something. And that happens about once every few years.

I love this steamer because it comes with a 3 year warranty and the one time I had an issue, I emailed the company and got amazing support right away. Also, I love that you can buy replacement parts from them so that you don’t have to replace the entire steamer if something goes bad, unlike most brands out there.

Whenever I travel, for work or pleasure, I always bring mine with me, and on top of that, they make great gifts! They’re definitely one of those things where someone gets it and doesn’t understand how amazing it is until they use it.

So join me in the 21st century and throw out your iron and ironing boards!
