Spring is here and it’s time to take a look at your wardrobe. Depending on where you live in the country it could still be cool or already getting warm. That means versatile items that layer well to keep you warm or make it simple to dress sharply when it’s warm out. Don’t forget to check out all of our picks below!
5. Chambray Shirt
One of my favorite essential pieces, its rugged look is perfect for the transitional wardrobe. Wear on its own with chinos or layer it under a sweater or a bomber jacket.
4. Leather Chukka Boot
The perfect versatile boot for your casual and dressy wardrobe. I recommend dark brown leather (as opposed to suede) for versatility and protection against any spring rain.
3. Lightweight Jacket – Denim or Nylon/Cotton Bomber
Temperatures can be unpredictable in Spring so a versatile, lightweight outer layer is just what you need. These jackets work just as well with a button up as they do with a t-shirt.
J. Crew 1
A baggy hoodie is not what we’re talking about, we mean a well-fitting crewneck sweatshirt. It looks great casually with chinos and denim and is a great alternative to a sweater.
Rag & Bone
Your go-to pants for Spring, they’re super comfortable and durable. There are versions at every budget and come in stretch and non-stretch varieties these days. Go with basic colors like khaki, navy, grey, and olive for maximum versatility. For more tips, check out our full chino rundown.
Rag & Bone Fit 2
ecause of all the rain that’s been happening here in LA and the East Coast, I’ve been trying to find stylish yet practical jackets for some of my clients who are doing press right now along the soggy coasts. I found this awesome snokel jacket that fit the bill perfectly.
I was so excited to find a lightweight snorkel jacket that fit the bill perfectly. A snorkel jacket is basically a parka. It’s a 3/4 length jacket hitting mid-thigh and has a drawstring hood that can tighten so your entire face is covered except a small breathing hole, hence the name snorkel. A lightweight jacket, like the one in the image, will also take you through Spring and is easy to layer under.
$788 – Todd Snyder Storm Parka in Beige
$298 – J. Crew Lightweight Snorkel Jacket
$150 – Zara Technical Parka
In the image, the jacket is layered over a striped long sleeve shirt, but you can also wear a grey, navy, or burgundy sweatshirt or crewneck sweater.
$168 – Todd Snyder Italian Silk-Cotton Striped Sweater
$95 – Vince Striped Long Sleeve T-Shirt
$60 – J. Crew Striped Long Sleeve T-Shirt in Heavyweight Jersey
$35 – TopMan Selected Homme Navy and White Stripe Long Sleeve T-Shirt
Not only does this outfit look great with some dark wash jeans, you can also wear a pair of chinos or wool trousers with it.
$228 – JBrand Tyler Taper Fit in Rasalas
$70 – Levi’s 511 Slim Fit Stretch Jeans (Blue Flame or Dark Hollow)
$40 – Uniqlo Stretch Selvedge Slim-Fit Jeans
As for shoes, I’d go with a pair of boots or sneakers.

Classic film star Anthony Perkins shows us how to wear a short-sleeve sweatshirt to a summer evening event.
This past week, a guy friend called me up and asked what he could wear to a summer evening event that wouldn’t leave him drowning in his own sweat. A simple shirt and trousers would look too underdressed, but a jacket, even a light one, would not help with the sweating problem. I immediately recommended he go with a short-sleeve sweatshirt.
They’re lighter than a jacket, made out of breathable cotton, and are comfortable to boot.
Follow these steps to recreate Perkins’ look:
- Choose a light colored short-sleeve sweater, like this Club Monaco Terry Short-Sleeved Crewneck, $60.
- Wear over a darker colored short-sleeve button-down shirt, making sure the collar stays underneath the sweater.
- Roll up the sweater’s sleeves but make sure your shirt sleeves aren’t peeking out.
- Finish with dress pants and dress shoes.
